Every Sports Organization Should Think Like a Media Company
Attending the Summer League Film Festival in Las Vegas reinforced something I’ve believed for a long time: the future of sports isn’t just being played on the field or court. It’s being told through media.
Today’s fans connect with athletes through highlights, social media, podcasts, documentaries, interviews, and behind-the-scenes content. Sports are no longer defined solely by wins and losses. They’re defined by the stories that create connection.
That philosophy shouldn’t be limited to professional sports. Local organizations, college programs, and amateur leagues should think like content studios. Behind every team are athletes overcoming challenges, families making sacrifices, coaches building culture, and communities rallying around something bigger than the game.
That’s the approach we take at 19 ENT. Short Track: The Battle for Grassroots explores the people, traditions, and communities keeping grassroots racing alive, while our upcoming series Leave No Doubt: A Juco Reborn goes beyond football to explore resilience, leadership, and second chances.
Documentaries create lasting connection, while social media keeps organizations present every day.
Sports have always been about more than competition. They’re about identity, belonging, and community. If local sports are going to grow, we have to stop thinking like we’re simply covering games and start thinking about how we connect with audiences at every level.
